Help Us with Trail Construction on the Dakota Ridge Trail! Celebrate the 141st birthday of the greatest state on Earth. On August 1st, 1876 Ulysses S Grant signed the proclamation admitting Colorado as the 38th state. Celebrate your fair state by volunteering with Jefferson County Open Space. Jefferson County Open Space would like to give our visitors an opportunity to give back to their public lands by joining us in the construction of the Dakota Ridge Trail. Volunteers will be using hand tools build rock sustainable rock structures such as, bank turns, rock walls, steps and drops. This is a unique opportunity to create a mountain bike friendly black diamond experience that will last for years to come. As a show of gratitude volunteers will be treated to a complimentary lunch and a chance to win prizes. We will be meeting in the Lower South Lot at Red Rocks above entrance 2 off of Hogback Rd/Co 9 https://www.google.com/maps/dir//39.6624981,-105.1995551/@39.6643116,-105.2014708,2090m/data=!3m1!1e3. **LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED. PLEASE NOTIFY JCOS IF YOU HAVE ANY DIETARY RESTRICTIONS** REQUIREMENTS: Be in good physical condition Be able to use a variety of tools, including shovels, picks and rakes Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian Be prepared for numerous and changing environmental conditions WHAT TO BRING & WEAR: Closed-toe, sturdy shoes are required. No open-toed shoes or sandals of any kind will be allowed. Long pants (we will be working in rattle snake habitat) Work gloves Plenty of water (2 quarts minimum) Raingear Sunscreen and insect repellent Toilet paper (recommended) A day pack
