National Trails Day At Elk Meadow Park

BACKGROUND: Spend National Trails Day outside giving back to your public lands. Jefferson County Open Space is hosting a volunteer project at Elk Meadow Park as a way to protect wildlife and continue to provide healthy and safe nature-based experiences to our visitors. Volunteers will be focusing on 3 main objectives: • Helping to control noxious weeds, which helps keep natural habitats resilient.. • Creating new trails for visitors to have access to public land. • Removing Barbed Wire that can be harmful to wildlife. Volunteers will meet and park at the Ranger Barn just past the Lewis Ridge Trailhead. 2855 Bergen Peak Dr. https://maps.app.goo.gl/6iYQDTMXPiMPhh2A6 Please DO NOT park at the Lewis Ridge TH. Please carpool or take alternative transportation to the project. REQUIREMENTS: Be able to hike and use a variety of tools, including shovels, picks, and rakes. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Be prepared for numerous and changing environmental conditions. WHAT TO BRING & WEAR: Project waiver: All volunteers need to sign a waiver. If you register online, then you will sign it electronically. Paper copies will also be available at the work site. Closed-toe, sturdy shoes are required (no sandals). Work gloves (if you have them). Plenty of water (2 quarts minimum). Rain gear and appropriate layers for the forecasted weather. Snacks. Necessary medications like Epi-Pens, inhalers, etc. Sunscreen and insect repellent. A day pack. NO PETS ALLOWED. If you need to cancel: Jefferson County Open Space is counting on your help for this project. If you are unable to volunteer, please cancel your registration to allow other volunteers to fill your spot. Weather: We will be completing this project, even if it snows or rains. Please be prepared to work in any weather. If you see the forecast ahead of time, and decide you do not want to work in inclement weather, please cancel your registration to allow other volunteers to sign up.
