Native Plant Growth Study - Monitoring Day - North Table Mountain Park West Trailhead (NTM-W)

Jefferson County Open Space Native Plant Growth Study Community Science - Native plant monitoring at North Table Mountain Come assist our research study to ascertain what growing conditions contribute to native plant survival and growth in the field. The plants used in this study were germinated and grown in 1) peat-based soil, and 2) mineral-compost soil mix. We will also investigate the effect of planting date and fertilization. We will measure plant growth parameters like plant presence/absence, height, number of stems, number of blooms, etc. They include four forb species: Achillea millefolium (yarrow) Artemisia ludoviciana (prairie sage) Heterotheca villosa (hairy goldenaster) Symphyotrichum ericoides (white heath aster) And four grass species: Bouteloua gracilis (blue grama) Hesperostipa comata (needle and thread) Nassella viridula, (green needlegrass) Pascopyrum smithii (western wheatgrass) Plant Growth Monitoring Days - measure individual plants to describe their growth 2025: July 10 and 24, August 14 and 28, September 11 and 21 (CoNPS Annual Conference Field Trip), October 9 and 23 5:00 pm - sunset 2026: March 16, April 9, May 14 5:00 pm - sunset Volunteers should bring their own water, snacks, sunscreen, and gloves. Please wear pants and hiking boots. We will provide measuring tools. Hazards include sun exposure, snakes, uneven ground, and inclement weather. The total travel distance will be less than one mile from the North Table Mountain Trailhead. Bathrooms are available at the trailhead. Please carpool when you can.
